Storyboard Text

  • Reshmina: Pages 159-164
  • Uh-oh. I have to go back and warn the village!
  • Reshmina: Pages 189-195
  • I can do this.
  • Reshmina: Pages 241-248
  • It might be another way out!
  • “Reshmina glanced over her shoulder one last time. Pasoon was talking animatedly with the Taliban and pointing back in the direction of their village. Reshmina ran faster" (Gratz 164). This supports my theme because Reshmina knows that she can’t give up, that she has to go back to warn her village.
  • Brandon: Pages 51-59
  • I have to go find my dad!
  • “But sometimes what was right and what was easy were two different things. With renewed strength in her heart, Reshmina drew her scarf up around her head and started down the mountain toward her village” (Gratz 195). This quote supports my theme because, even when Reshmina feels like quitting, even when she feels like it’s her fault her family is in this mess, she doesn’t give up and decides to fix it.
  • Brandon: Pages 74-80
  • I can do this.
  • Just let me look a little more.
  • “Reshmina felt a tiny spark of hope rekindle in her chest, and she turned excitedly to the others. “It might be another way out” (Gratz 248)! This quote also supports my theme because it shows that Reshmina is beginning to hope again that she and the others can escape the cave that collapsed on top of them. (The other people in the picture are Mor and Taz.)
  • Brandon: Pages 232-240
  • “Brandon tied the wet napkin back around his face and started to climb the stairs up to Windows on the World” (Gratz 59). This supports my theme because, instead of escaping with the people from the elevator, he tries to make it back to his dad. He doesn’t give up.
  • “You always crashed, even when you got good at skateboarding. That was just part of it. Every skater ate pavement. You learned how to fall. And you learned how to get back up again” (Gratz 78). This quote supports my theme because, while Brandon is finding it difficult to get back to his dad, he keeps going.
  • “Just let me look a little more,” Brandon told him. He couldn’t leave Richard behind. Not after all they’d been through together” (Gratz 239). This quote also supports my theme because Brandon doesn’t give up on looking for Richard in the underground mall. (The other people in the picture are Gayle and Pratik.)
