- People on Maple Street are having a normal summer day, doing yard work, eating ice cream, and hanging out outside. Main characters include Charlie, Don, Tommy, Steve, Les Goodman, and Pete Van Horn, and Mrs Brand.

- An unknown object suddenly flies through the sky resulting in a loud noise and panic. All electronics on Maple Street stop working. This causes people to be scared and confused. Everyone starts blaming each other for being an alien.
- falling action
- Everyone starts to gather in the street, trying to figure out what's wrong. After Tommy suggests that it might be aliens, people start accusing each other for unusual things happening. Pete goes into town to try and see if they were having problems there too.
- resolution
- Charlie shoots and kills Pete, thinking that he was an suspicious figure walking up the street. Charlie feels very guilty and the mob begins to yell at him and accuse him. People begin to accuse Charlie of being an alien, because he was so quick to shoot.
- Everyone in the neighborhood starts panicking, and everyone starts accusing each other of being an alien sent from outer space. People keep getting more angry and confused, and the whole mob of people is turning against each other. People begin to accuse Tommy and his family, and then Steve.
- As the Maple streets residents continue to panic and unreasonably accuse one another. there are two figures standing on a hill in the distance, which begin to say how this is the exact pattern that happens every time, no matter where in the world it is. The figure says if they shut the electronics off for a few hours, the people will begin to destroy themselves. The End.
