Wayback, long before you or I were born, there were these people who lived in aplace where they felt they would be free; the 13 Colonies.
Even though they moved there to be free, they still had to follow the rules of a king.
The king had strict rules, and that made them feel like they couldn’t do anything. They thought their king would protect them from other people attacking them, but he didn’t.
One of these people was Benjamin. He was a farmer in a place called Jamestown. He wanted change like everyone else he knew.
One day, Benjamin heard a man speak up about these problems to someone who worked for the king, William the governor. This man was named Nathaniel Bacon.
He was an English merchant adventurer who emigrated to the Virginia Colony, where he sat on the Governor's Council
Nathaniel told the governor that it was not okay to not help the people, especially from being attacked by others.
Benjamin and a lot of the other colonists liked what Nathaniel was saying and decided to join him to help get the government to listen.
It was scary for Benjamin and his friends, but they knew that they would have to fight to get the governor and the king to listen to them.
Things didn’t go the way they wanted, so Benjamin, Nathaniel, and the colonists decided to fight.
They did many things that they normally wouldn’t do if the governor had listened to them; they fought and they burned down the governor’s house.
The colonists were very brave. Unfortunately, Nathaniel died, and Benjamin and the other colonists were very sad.
Eventually, their fight had to end without many things they wanted to get from fighting, they didn’t get.
Even though they didn’t win, the King now knew that the colonists were not happy. Even though it wasn’t much, the King’s government provided some better protection of the colonists
He thought that would be enough to keep the colonies under their control....
.....but Benjamin and Nathaniel and their friends inspired many others that followed them.
They sparked an attitude of independence and helped others feel like they could stand up against the King and eventually fight to create the United States of America. The End
