The protest movement was led by the group Te Rōpū Matakite, created by the Maori leader Whina Cooper. It started in Northland. Whina Cooper worked for many years for the rights of Maori people. There are Whina Cooper and protesters in the scene, and they are gonna do a protest of their lands.

About 5000 marchers arrived at Parliament on October13, 1975, where Whina Cooper presented a petition signed by 60000 people to the Prime Minister, Bill Rowling. The primary aim was to protest against the continuing the loss of Mari Land. The government sent the police to drive the marchers away, and the protest finally ended.
