After the tortoise tricked the birds and ate all of the food and left them nothing, the parrot tricked him back by telling him that he will tell his wife to bring out all of the soft stuff, but he actually told her to bring out all of the hard stuff. So when the tortoise jumped down, he landed on the hard objects and broke his shell. This folktale that ekwefi shares with Ezinma and the other children teaches us that it is not ok to manipulate people or be greedy because it can cause bad karma.

This quote shows that everyone in the town sees that Okonkwo is not like the others. Okonkwo was intended to end up like his father but he proved everyone wrong and he became the most respected, well known person in the village. Okonkwo is a hard worker and gets things done.

While the white missionaries were singing, Nwoye listened and strangely felt calm and drawn to the song. The hymn was about brothers who sat in darkness and lived with fear, and Nwoye connected to this because wondered about twins crying in the bushes and Ikemefuna’s death.
Straight out of jail, Okonkwo couldn’t come to the fact that he had lost his masculinity. He was upset that he had basically lost the things that he had worked for. This quote from the story shows that even though times were hard for Okonkwo he still went out of his way to please others.
