Storyboard Text

  • Christianity in Africa
  • Christianity in Africa arrived in Southern Africa in the middle of the 1st century. By the end of the 2nd century it had reached the region around Carthage.
  • Christian influence can be seen in the Coptic Church of Alexandria, the rock hewn Ethiopian churches in Lalibela, the remains of the mudbrick churches of the defunct Nubian Christian Church, and the introduction of European church designs, using native African materials, during the colonial era.
  • Bread - often (though not exclusively) unleavened bread; one of the two elements (with wine) of the Christian eucharist, the bread represents Christ's body.
  • Wine - one of the elements of consecration used in the sacrament of the eucharist, the wine represents Christ's blood.
  • Many Christians have followed certain dress codes during attendance at church. Customs have varied over time and among different Christian denominations.
  • At first the church in Alexandria was mainly Greek-speaking. By the end of the 2nd century the scriptures and liturgy had been translated into three local languages
  •
  • Christian leadership is a dynamic relational process in which people, under the influence of the Holy Spirit, partner to achieve a common goal - it is serving others by leading and leading others by serving.
