man that's weird, Micheal thinks making a face makes him handsome. (Victor tried a scowl, he felt foolish, until out corner of his eye he saw a girl looking at him) Umm, he thought, maybe it does work.
Trust me it does work. Scowling is my peak in performance, It shows the ferocity in my soul!

Well, in the story "Seventh Grade" the main character Victor is in the hallway talking to his friend named "Micheal Torres". In this discussion, Victor questions Micheal's weird appearance contrasting from previous years. After that, Micheal replies that he has been practicing the art of scowling during the summer. Also, he explains that he found this "scowling" method from a GQ magazine then demonstrates his scowling skill to Victor. From the next few sentences Victor isn't really phased by his friend's lecture on scowling, instead he tries to move away from the sketchy topic by talking about classes. This shows Victor was slightly pressured from the moment. After his friend leaves, Victor walks to homeroom area to be checked for attendance. Suddenly, in the hallway Victor feels pressured to do a scowl since his friend made it seem so powerful to attract people. Victor questions himself why he is doing this until it catches the attention of a girl to the corner of his eye. He continued to scowl with a greater enthusiasm for the practice. I believe this scene ties in with the big idea of "peer pressure" since this is a pretty small moment that isn't explained in the middle or the end of the story, but it is mentioned multiple times though throughout the story. What I mean by this is Victor tries practicing scowling throughout the whole book but it is never explained why he continues this practice when hes just by himself. Well, my theory is since Micheal imbued this thought within Victor's head, Victor isn't focused on his work, instead he is focused on chasing Teresa through the ENTIRE school just to talk to her. This differentiates from the early beginning of the story when Victor was only slightly thinking about Teresa and mostly focusing on how he would learn about the geography of France. I believe Victor was peer pressured to fit in with the crowd just like what happens in real middle schools along the U.S. A scene from my own school experience is when I was doing my work with a partner and I was getting a bit tired of reading (on the computer). Then suddenly, my partner advises me to press "control + alt + z" on my computer. Me, not knowing of the fatality of this computer key bind, I decide to try it for myself to find out what it was going to do. Well, this key bind deleted all my tabs then ten seconds after, signed me out my computer. This ties in with peer pressure because I felt pressured to try the key bind. This scene correlates to Victor's dilemma by portraying that we both have gone through a moment where peer pressure guided us to do some action we wouldn't normally do. In Victor's case, this was making Teresa feel uncomfortable and for me, pressing a fatal key bind.
