Storyboard Text

  • During breaktime:
  • "Absolutely! Yesterday's topic was Non-Mendelian Inheritance. Let me fill you in on what I've learned."
  • "Hey Alex! I missed yesterday's class. Could you catch me up on what we learned in the Genetics lecture?"
  • Codominance arises when both alleles of a gene are equally expressed in heterozygotes' phenotype. Incomplete dominance involves a merging of two alleles, leading to a third phenotype that combines traits from both alleles. It's crucial to note that neither of these exhibits a genotypic ratio.
  • I'm a bit puzzled about distinguishing between codominance and incomplete dominance.
  • Another type of inheritance is multiple alleles, where a trait is governed by more than two alleles. The classic example is the ABO blood group system. Epistasis occurs when one gene influences the expression of another gene's phenotype. Examples include hair color and baldness. Lethal alleles have the potential to cause an organism's death.
  • Ah, I understand now. There are several modes, but I believe I can differentiate between them.
  • How can I determine whether a trait is sex-limited or sex-influenced?
  • Amber, you'll recognize traits as sex-limited if they're evident in only one gender, whereas they're considered sex-influenced if they're expressed in both males and females. Remember, though, that both are autosomal traits.
  • Is that all?
  • Yes, I almost forgot to mention sex-linked traits. These characteristics are determined by genes located on the X chromosome in humans. Hemophilia and color blindness are among the examples of such traits.
  • Thanks, Alex! I really appreciate all the knowledge you've shared with me. Lunch is on me next time. See you tomorrow!
  • No worries! Feel free to reach out via text or call if you have any further questions about it. Catch you later!
