Monsters due on Maple Street Theme: Fear and suspicion cause Destruction
One of the major themes is fear and suspicion cause destruction, and an example of that is when the residents were so scared of the shadow figure that one of the people, charlie, snatched the gun from Steve and shot the figure thinking it was the alien but it was actually Pete Van Horn who got shot an got his life destroyed. Another example of this was after Charlie shot Pete and realized it was Pete, Charlies lights inside his house turned on and everyone was getting suspicious of him and they talked about how he was so quick to kill and Charlie gets intimidated by the crowd and tries to run away but a man tackles him and the people start to beat him up, start throwing rocks at Charlie, trying to destroy him. The last example is when Charlie blames Tommy for being the alien and some of them are blaming Charlie and other people are blaming the people that had their lights on, they were being so suspicious of each other that they started rioting and trying to destroy each other.
