The East India company wanted to extract many resources from Indian lands, such as tea, opium and silk, and this often led to the British soldiers mistreating and harming the native people of India. Strict policies and famine also led to many deaths, approximately 30 million, when the East India company ruled over India. Indian Natives called sepoys were soldiers that worked under the East India company to help exploit trade.
