- This theme goes with the lines 90-93 because it says "He arrived safely in Sicily, where he built a temple to Apollo and hung up his wings as an offering to the god, and in the wings he pressed a few bright feathers he had found floating on the water where Icarus fell." this represents the theme because had had got some feathers where his son had fallen and his wings and gave it as a gift to the god Apollo.
- Courage it important, so long as the risk matches the reward
- This theme goes with the lines 42-43 because it says "No human being has ever traveled through the air before." which means that their is that risk of them not making it and dying. So if they want the success of freedom they have to take that risk.
- Family is a safe place, so stay close to them
- This theme goes with the lines 68-69 because it says "He was bewitched by a sense of freedom and beat his wings frantically so that they would carry him higher and higher itself ." then the sun had melted his wings and fell to the ocean and died because he did not follow his fathers instructions.
- Freedom requires responsibility and it needs to be used appropriately
- This theme goes with the lines 5-6 because it says "Only to find himself a prisoner on the island." That means that he has no freedom on that island. Then in the line 12 it says "But he does not control the air. I will try that way." son in this case the reward matches the risk because if you stay on that island you are not living and the risk of flying you could die so it is a fifty fifty chance of survival.
- This theme goes with the lines 46-47 it says "Keep near me and you will be safe." this proves that family will always be their for you no mater what and to never back away from family over silly little things.
- This theme goes with the lines 67-68 it says "Up and up Icarus soared, through the soft, moist clouds and out again towards the glorious sun." this shows that Icarus knows that he can not go towards the sun, but was not responsibil and whent anyways.
