Santa Anna crossed the ColoradoRiver in an attemptto corner the Texas army. Hustonretreated, and was heavily criticized, though he had good reason to retreat. He moved south to Harrisburg to prepare for battle.
Huston gathered his supplies and trained his troops. He marched his army towards Santa Anna's camp. There, he found that Santa Anna camped out in the open, and he decided to camp in a grove of trees, starting to plan.
Huston attacked the camp while the Mexican soldierswere taking theirafternoon siestas. The Mexicans were taken by surprise, and battle was won within 18 min.
