Lilly is a young, timid girl living in the big city of Elespus that is currently under the threat of an asteroid that will destroy everyone.
The Call to Adventure
BREAKING NEWS- there may be a way to protect ourselves from the asteroid. It requires a long journey and a brave volunteer. Any volunteers please report to city hall at dawn. 
What if I volunteer? After all, I have nothing else to lose. I should tell my mom about this. 
Refusal of the Call
Hey mom did you see the news? I was thinking I could volunteer. I have nothing to lose at this point. 
Lilly, you have plenty to lose, the asteroid probably won't even hit us anyways so don't risk your life.  Your not going.

I guess my mom is right, it was a silly idea. I just need some sleep. 
Meeting with the Mentor
As Lilly drifts off to sleep, she hears something at her window.
Lilly! Wake up! It's urgent!

Anne, what are you doing here?
What? Why me? 
I want to go, but I can't because my little brothers are scared and need my care. I left a book on your shelf with the information you will need for the journey. 
It's about the news announcement- I think you should volunteer.  
No Anne. Go back to your house. It's late.
