- Jerry Spinelli is the publisher of the novel Stargirl. This takes place in Leo Borlock's junior year at Mica Area High School in Arizona. He starts to become friends with a girl named Stargirl who loves to weaar long and old skirts, and is different from other students. But the students at the school turn on her for cheering for the opposing basketball teams.
- This leads to her being hated by the entire school except Leo and her only friend, Dori Dilson.

- One day before the basketball incident, in the lunchroom , Mallory Stillwell the captain of the cheerleaders and Hillarie Kimble the popular girl, sat with stargirl. They even asked her to join the cheer leading team.

- When basketball play-offs come around they lose in the semi-finals. Stargirl makes the school mad by comforting a player from the opposing team when he breaks his ankle. After the next game, where they losa another game, an unknown student hits Stargirl in the face with a tomato. The school gets mad and blames Stargirl for the team's loss.

- Stargirl goes to the ball, bunny hopping with the school, her classmates and leaving after what Hillarie said. She moved away before the next school year. Some years later, Leo gets a necktie just like one that she made for him in high school.

- This was a really great book. This book is easy to read and I would recommend for a teenager or someone who really likes high school movies/novels to read it. Some parts of the story were boring, but it had some very surprising and exiting parts in the book . It teaches you to be yourself because people will like you even tho some wont.
