- The play starts in Salem, Massachusetts, in woods. A group of girls are found dancing in the woods and are accused of witchcraft. The girls blamed a slave called Tituba of forcing them. Tituba claims innocent and one of the girls named Abigail starts accusing other women hysterically.

- One of the girls named Betty, daughter of Reverend Paris doesn't wake up. They call a very prestigious doctor who caught a witch some years ago called Reverend Hale who claimed her bewitched.

- Mr and Ms Putnam enter the room where Parris and Abigail are arguing, they start having a conversation about the events that happened in the forest as their daughter is as well in bed.

- In the story it is revealed that Abigail has an affair with John Proctor.Proctor is married to Elizabeth and that is why Abigail is jealous of her,
- As Elizabeth and other woman have been accused, Abigail tries to convince John that if he leaves Elizabeth she will help her in court. John is very angry and leaves the room.
