  • During the 1800's everyone was competing and working to be successful in life

  • Monopoly was created by Carnegie, Morgan, and Rockefeller this let them take complete control over their industry's production wages and prices. 
  • This mainly was supported by business people or people who benefited from it but others thought of it as something they used to take advantage of workers and consumers.
  • This meant that costumers had fewer choices and were forced to pay and workers had fewer choices too because it wasn't that easy to find a new job.
  • While the North was doing good industrially the South was still trying to recover from the Civil war.
  • Monopoly and trustees were always going to benefit big business more than consumers and workers so in 1890 they created the Sherman Antitrust but it failed to work since nobody was reinforcing this.
  • The Sherman Antitrust Act made it illegal to form a trust and prohibited monopolies and other activities that prevented competition.
