Great Britian, who was trying to rcover the cost of the 7 Year War, began to charge a tax on almost all paper documents in the colonies. Ex. Stamps, Playing Cards, Newspapers, etc.This Frustration is what caused this event to lead to the war due to the fact that the colonist had no say in British Parliament.
Intolerable Acts - 1774
The townshend acts were passed by British parliment and added a tax to glass,china, paint, lead, and tea bought by the colonist. The British did this to gain back money they lost in the French and Indian War. The colonist saw this act as an abuse of power and were unhappy. In response the British sent soliders to America which is the tension that lead this event to the war

The British allowed their Dutch East India Company to ship their tea directly to the colonies rather than stopping in Europe first. This made the colinist angry because even though the tea was cheaper it cut out the colonial merchants. The impact of this in which lead to the war was the Boston Tea Party.

Apointing new local officials in place of the elected ones, and limiting gathering of organizations unless aproved. This angered the colonist do to the fact they felt less free, caused them to revolt

Common Sense was a clearly written informational pamphlet explining why the colinist needed to free themselves from Great Britian. The pamphlet was written Thomas Paine and was written in a way so that any aberage person could understand it and to persuade to join the rebelion. It was truely one of the first attempts to pursuade the average man that they needed to gain their independence.
