- Hardy and Osborne talk. Hardy reveals Stanhope's reputation as a heavy drinker and the planned big attack

- Raleigh arrives and speaks to Osborne. He reveals his childhood friend ship with Stanhope
- Cross out all he says about me. Then we all go west in the big attack — and she goes on thinking I’m a fine fellow for ever — and ever — and ever.

- Stanhope arrives to the trench, finds Raleigh annd is mad/ confused and paranoic about Raleigh being here because Raleigh wil see him drinking and tell his future wife, Raleigh's sister.

- The three guys sit down with Topper and start eating, while Stanhope is being very Paranoic.
- it wants some pepper; bring some pepper,Mason.
- Stanhope gets drunk threatens to censor Raleighs letters, abusing of his power.
- Osborne puts a drunk sad Stanhope to sleep and cares for him in a fatherly behaviour.
