Students will be able to understand the history of computers in order to demonstrate the binary system and in groups build a model of the binary system. They will understand algorithms and patterns.
What is the binary system? What would computers be without the binary system? Why can't we use a timekeeper to compute numbers?
Essential Questions
If we expect our students to know who, what, when, why, and how computers were formed then they will be able to grasp the concept of the binary system.
Problem-based Learning
The ENIAC stored large amount of data!
Students will know at the end of the lesson...
The main reason why the timekeeping system was changed to a binary system.
Students will choose to create from 3 different models:1. UNIVAC model2. Wooden binary system 3. The balls pattern
Strengths of the lesson: Students work in groups to build a binary system model and they understand the history of computers. Weaknesses include the challenge of explaining the revolution of computers, buying materials, finding the space and time.
