Langston Hughes was born February 1, 1902. In Joplin,Mo.(Rampersad 24).
he attended Central High School from 1916 to 1920 in Cleveland, Ohio(Rampersad 24).
he was elected class poet and editor of the yearbook(Rampersad 24).
He began publishing poems and stories in the school montlhy magazine(Rampersad 24).
He started launching poems such as, "Mother to Son", "When Sue Wears Red", my people, and youth, which announced African American Literature (Rampersad 24).
In 1925, when Hughes had no more time to write, He quit. (Williams 18).
His sexuality was debated for years because he never romantically to a woman ever(Schulz 85) .
in June 1921, The Crisis published his first poem to appear in a national magazine. this was "The Negro Speaks Of Rives."(Rampersad 24).
Hughes earned his degree in 1929(Williams 18).
In 1934, he published his first collection of shorty stories, The Ways of White People. (Williams 18).
His multiracial background of african, French, Native, and English, Influened much of his poetry in life(Williams 18).
He published his first book of poems "The Weary Blues." one year later.(Williams 18).
In 1937, he served as a war correspondent(Schulz 85).
in 1949, he wrote a play that inspired the opera troubled island(Schulz 85).
Hughes died May 22, 1967. due to prostate cancer (Schulz 85).
In 1951, he published another poem "Harlem what happens to a dream differed?" how the american dreams falls short for a black person (Schulz 85).
