Hernan Cortez determined to become his own leader left Diego Velasques(who led one of the most important conquests in 1511) rule set off with 11 ships, about 100 sailors, 580 soldiers, 16 horses and 10 cannons in February 1519. He became his own leader and took charge disobeying his governor's orders.
Cortez and his crew sailed and arrived at the coast of the Gulf of Mexico and disembarked near Tabasco where they were given presents/slaves one of them was a young woman whom the Spanish called Dona Marina/ Malinche because she could translate/speak several local languages and this helped Cortez in a large way.
Dona Marina She would be crucial in my plan
Moctezuma heard about the arrival of the Spain and goes to meet them.
Cortez and Montezuma spoke through Dona. And although Montezuma welcomed them Cortez still took a huge risk and captured Montezuma.
