- The ESL Class pg 112/113Jude has had trouble in all her other classes, but the ESL class is only a couple students and they can relate to her by being new to America. This makes Jude feel better about moving to America and gain some hope
- Quote : Ben shares that he likes American slang words like cool and awesome and especially the word dough, which he explains he recently learned means money. Dough, he says, and then Omar says, Yeah, thats a COOL word, and we all laugh again. I was wrong about not wanting to be in Mrs. Ravenwood's room.
- Quote : As I thought, the technician says, smiling, another little girl.mBint, I confirm toMama. Her eyes spill over, tears running down her cheeks that have grown fuller in the months we have been here. Pressure builds behind my eyes, too.
- The Hospital pg 184Jude and Mama are in the hospital and found out that the baby is healthy, breathing, and a girl! This excites Jude and gives her even more hope. She is starting to like America better and doesn't think things will be as bad as she imagined.
