  • In this dilemma, we are neglecting the human right of fair trial. Although this is not related to law, this can still be applicable. If Chelsea accepted the gum, she would've got a detention, nevertheless of her attempts to hide it. However, Amy was the person who gave her the gum. Hence, It is not fair that Chelsea receives a punishment and Amy receives nothing. The right to freedom of conscience and religion and expression is also ignored as if Chelsea declined the offer, Amy would most likely get mad as when she offered Chelsea the gum she was quite demanding.
  • What human rights are we protecting or neglecting?
  • Conscience is a moral sense that that distinguishes good from bad. By informing us of our values and principles, it becomes the standard we use to judge our actions/deeds - however it is more than a gut instinct. My conscience is telling me to follow what Jesus would do. This would be politely refusing the gum and if my hunger grows rowdier then I can drink heaps of water. However, If Amy pressurizes to me to take the gum I would explain the consequences of eating gum in class and I would suggest an alternative of eating gum after school.
  • What is your conscienceand what is it telling you?
  • Oh no...Chelsea is committing a sin!! The sin Chelsea is committing is greed. Greed is including in the 7 deadliest sins. It means completing covetous actions for one's own gain. In this dilemma, If Chelsea accepts the gum she will be committing the sin of Greed as she will be taking the gum for only HER hunger.
  • Are you committing a sin?!
  • Hi Chelsea, I see you're having problems deciding what to do here. I suggest taking the chewing gum - but taking it after school. This way you aren't breaking any rules and you're making yourself and Amy happy.
  • Thank you Mr. T, I will consider that!
  • Thanks Aidan too, I guess
  • Ah.. Chelsea didn't take the gum...now I have to hide it
  • Psst Chelsea.....EAT THE GUM! You'll be popular don't you want that!?
  • Chelsea's conscience has changed to altar to Mr.T's, herself and Jesus'. Chelsea's final decision is to take the chewing gum but to not eat it during school -but afterschool. To cure her hunger, Chelsea will drink heaps of water to keep her hydrated and cool. Chelsea will also tell Amy the consequences of eating gum in school premises and the alternatives.
  • The final decision and the consequences
  • On the good side, Chelsea will be able to be popular as she has taken the gum, she will not be breaking any school rules/10 commandments, she will not be committing a sin and she will be maintaining a good relationship with Amy and her classmates. On the bad side, Chelsea will not be able to fulfill her hunger easily, Chelsea will be breaking the rules/10 commandments and will not please Chelsea or her teacher.
  • If Chelsea chose to take the chewing gum and ate it during school hours and got the risk of detention that would be a bad decision. Chelsea would then get the fame of glory of being popular, however, she would receive a detention and scolding by her parents as well as breaking the school rules and the 10 commandments - which is definitely a bad decision!
  • What would happen if Chelsea choose a bad decision?
