  • Rasputin was believed to have magical powers, and gained the trust of the Czar and Czarina by supposedly healing their son. When Czar went off to go fight in World War 1, Czarina was left in charge. She as easily influenced by Rasputin, who was then assassinated by those who thought he would try to overthrow Russian government.
  • The Russian Civil War
  • Textile workers, Mainly women, took to the streets to protest. They were angry that they had no bread and no fuel. Soldiers told to stand against the rioters decided to join them. The March Revolution forced Czar Nicholas to step down from his throne.
  • The Red Terror
  • What hashappened!?
  • This is what happens when you disagree with the Bolsheviks.
  • There was much distress in Russia after Czar stepped down, with different people supporting different forms of government. Eventually, after attacking Petrograd, Lenin and the Bolsheviks were able to take over. The Bolsheviks were a communist party who believed in immediate change. They were able to win over mainly the poor by promising “Peace, Land, Bread.”
  • The Death of Lenin, and the Rise of Stalin
  • The Russian Civil War was fought between two sides. The White Army, or anyone who was against the Bolsheviks, and the Red Army, the Bolsheviks. Even though the White Army was backed by Japan, France, Great Britain and the United States, they failed to win the war because they were indecisive. The White Army didn’t all agree on the form of government they were fighting for, only that they didn’t want communism.
  • After one of Lenin’s assassination attempts, the Red Terror began. Anyone who opposed the Bolsheviks in anyway, whether that be through public speech or newspaper, would be tortured and executed.
  • Lenin died of a stroke after enduring many assassination attempts, and it is believed that it was a bullet that was still lodged in his throat that resulted in this. Lenin had warned people about Stalin, and did not want him to be in power because he had too much of it. In the end, however, Stalin came into power,
