NOoOo...no...no, please my Lord! he's just a child! What has he done??
then why has he passed?!
nothing, actually. you don't get yellow fever from sinning.
and how do I protect myself from this...pathogen?
okay, so it all starts with a tiny thing called a a virus. a virus is a type of pathogen. it is so small you can't see it without a special machine, and when it gets inside you, depending on the virus, you can get very sick.
the pathogen for yellow fever is called Flavivirus.
well, yellow fever is actually spread by mosquitoes biting people. So if you use mosquito repellent to protect yourself you probably won't get it.
wait. how do pathogens even get in us?
your skin and the oils on your skin are the first defence against pathogens. then the white blood cells come in and eat them, and the helper t cells tell the b cells to make antibodies (like a weapon) which they then use against the pathogens. then the t cells come in to annoy them and then their buddies the killer t cells come in and eat them.
then the memory b cells store the antibodies so your body will recognise them when you next get infected and they'll know what to do. congrats! you're now immune to that virus!!
wait. how do you know this stuff??
don't you have some way of stopping these sicknesses?
wow. is there anything i could do to protect myself against other things?
I'm from the future!
washing your hands helps a lot more than you think it does!
okay, thank you!
goodbye!
we do! they're called vaccines. a vaccine is made of a small, weakened piece of that disease's pathogen. when it is injected into your arm or sprayed up your nose, your body reacts to it (the same way they would've reacted to the real thing) and you get immunity way faster because it isn't as strong so you don't get as sick or die.
the vaccine for yellow fever is called the YF vaccine.
