  • Elena arrives in Miami alone through without her family, she was able to do this through Operation Peter Pan, unfortunately she was separated from her family. She had to face a new that was imaginable. Page 5 — The Freedom Tower, Operation Peter Pan, brought fourteen thousand unaccompanied Cuban children and young people to the United States between 1960 and 1962.(Gibson, 386)

  • Elena went to the Freedom Tower and was processed as a refugee. Many others like her got processed. This was a movement that made Miami a place for the Cuban Refugees. "The Freedom Tower served as a reception center for Cubans from 1962 to 1974 — the Ellis Island of the South." (Gibson, 383)

  • Elena discovers Little Havana, a community that preserved Cuban culture in the heart of Miami, that was created from other people just like her.Little Havana became the heart of the Cuban exile community, a neighborhood that felt like Cuba but existed in a country not quite theirs.
