When my family was in St. Maarten two summers ago, I asked if they wanted to ride a banana boat. My sister loved this idea, my dad was pretty excited, but I think my mom had some reservations.

My dad was very confident in his skills (not knowing that the point of the banana boat is to fall off and try again). I could tell my mom thought he was too excited. My sister and I had ridden one before, so when my dad said it would be easy, we just laughed.

After paying for the banana boat ride, the speed boat driver took us out to the open water to start our ride. At first, the driver started easy, with wide turns and a medium speed, but then...

We took a sharp turn, the banana boat swung to the right, bouncing on a wave, and my dad flew off!

We alerted the driver who started laughing. When we circled back to get my dad he was chuckling, but my family and I could tell he was stunned. In reality, we rode around a few more times, but my dad fell off more than I think he would've liked, so we eventually stopped.

My family had a lot of fun that day. My sister and I told my grandmother who was at our vacation house while we were at the beach. She found this story hilarious. That night we had dinner with friends and we told the story again!
