  • “There was no breeze. The sea was as lat as a plate-glass window. We were drawing near the island then. What I felt was a — a mental chill; a sort of sudden dread.” The mood and island is being described as ominous and unknown.
  • Conflict
  • The Most Dangerous Game, Zaroff said, I have electricity, we try to be civilized here. It’s ironic because on the island there is no civilization. It is chaos.
  • Climax
  • “The old charts call it ‘Ship-Trap Island,’” Whitney replied. “A suggestive name, isn’t it? Sailors have a curious dread of the place. I don’t know why. Some superstition — ” The name suggests that people get trapped. This foreshadows that they will get trapped.
  • Resolution
  • “Be a realist. The world is made up of two classes--the hunters and the huntees. Luckily, you and I are hunters.” Rainsford is faced with a primal environment where is forced to succeed or die trying.
  • “Hunting? Good God, General Zaroff, what you speak of is murder” This is the moment Rainsford realized what the general was really doing.
  • “He had never slept in a better bed, Rainsford decided.” Rainsford finally defeated General Zaroff and had won the game.
