Hello everybody! I am the wood frog, with the amazing ability to create antifreeze within my body and body only. It keeps me stable throughout the winter, preventing me from enduring those harsh weather conditions. Today I'll be talking about how I incorporate my cells and homeostasis with this ability.

My cells are very important for this process. It begins with ice sucking water out of my cells, and while this is happening, my liver creates glucose to prevent dehydration to mix with urine to create antifreeze. After this, the antifreeze goes into my cells and props them up. This prevents the loss of too much water from my cells. If I lose more than 60%, this process is irreversible.

Once these eight idle months are over, water begins to flow back into my cells. Once re-hydrated, they return back to their original form.

Homeostasis also occurs during the antifreeze process! Once I enter this state, my cells remain unfrozen and that's how they stay. My cells do not budge throughout the entirety of a winter, creating a constant state of idleness. If my cells manage to unexpectedly move, this will cause them to dry out. This is why it's very crucial for them to stay stable throughout the entire winter.
