  • Maybe adding more words will make me sound smarter..
  • Prior to the Agricultural Revolution, many religions believed in animism and were exclusively local.
  • With the Agricultural Revolution came a religious revolution. Hunter-gatherers who once saw plants and animals equal in status to Homo Sapiens would then become farmers, desiring to own and manipulate them as their property.
  • Humans living in an area of land would have to understand the regulations set up for it by the superhuman order specific to that area, and adjust themselves and their lifestyles as was needed.
  • However, farmers did not have control over nature, as the offspring of their sheep could turn out to be unhealthy or infected with disease.
  • Religious practices such as sacrificing animals, for many would have been lambs, and offering food were common as the belief was they would receive abundant harvests and healthy animals in return.

  • As people began to look towards believing in gods, animism grew less relevant. Gods had more power and authority over large areas than animistic beings. So when entire kingdoms or similar entities began to form, gods were the way to go.
  • Polytheistic religions believed in power being divided amongst several gods, each having control over certain elements of the world. Monotheists believed in one true God and omnipotence, often believing that what humans did while on Earth would affect its fate.

  • With time, religions came and went. Only a handful of ancient religions stayed to remain in popular practice today.
