- Stella didn't like black people because she felt they could blow her cover due to past experiences, "Stella told her daughter the same thing she heard her mother say. "Because we don't play with niggers"(Bennett 186). That was the first time she ever said that word to her daughter as Stella later found Loretta on her welcome mat delivering her daughter's doll back.
