- Hear me, Poseidon, grant that Odysseus never reaches home
- The next morning, Odysseus and his remaining men escape from the cave by clinging to the undersides of Polyphemus' sheep. As they sail away, Odysseus, in his pride, reveals his real name, allowing Polyphemus to call upon his father, Poseidon, to curse Odysseus’ journey.

- Odysseus and his crew arrive in the land of the Laestrygonians, giant cannibals. When they try to leave, the Laestrygonians attack, throwing massive boulders at their ships and spearing the men like fish. Only Odysseus' ship escapes, while the rest of the fleet is destroyed.

- Ah, you must be the great Odysseus
- No witch’s trick will work on me
- Odysseus’ men enter the palace of Circe, a powerful sorceress, and are welcomed with food and drink. However, the wine is drugged, and Circe transforms them into pigs. Odysseus, with the help of Hermes, resists her magic and forces her to turn them back into men. He then stays with Circe for a year before continuing his journey.
