  • What are these holes in the walls for Montresor?
  • At the carnival, Montresor runs into Fortunato, and he provides a bottle of wine called Amontillado. The only way they can get it is to go to the catacombs.
  • Falling Action
  • Montresor and Fortunato keep going to the wine vault. Montresor knows Fortunato has a weak spot for wine and is using that against him. He also knows he is sick so he is trying to lure him in more by saying they should go back.
  • Resolution
  • As they reach the Catacombs Fortunato notices that there is no Amontillado and only sees holes where a man could fit in. At this moment he knew Montresor was at revenge for him and sticks him in a whole.
  • Conflict
  • When he has laid almost all the bricks on Fortunato, Fortunato wants him to stop. But he knows it is too late to even ask why he is doing it.
  • As Montresor lays the last bricks down he only hears the jingling of the bells on Fortunato. He knows his deed is done.
  • Montresor knows that Fortunato has insulted him in a way. He wants to get revenge for what he has done. People reading dont know what they he did to insult Montresor but it must be very important to want to get revenge on him.
