  • the soldiers arrived at the landing site, at the bay of pigs, which was more than 80 miles away from refuge this place was chosen because there would be little resistance
  • cuban air base
  • the invasion plan was, two air strikes against cuban air bases, 1,400 man invasion would launch a surprise attack, paratroopers would drop and disrupt transportation and repel cuban forces, a smaller force would land on the east coast of cuba to create confusion, and the main force would advance across the island.
  • Kennedy had canceled the the second air strike because the first one was unsuccessful and revealed americas support for the invasion.

  • President Kennedy authorized an "air-umbrella". 6 B-26's were sent to cuban but arrived an hour late because of the time difference and were shot down. the invasion was crushed later that day.
  • the brigade prisoners were captive for 20 months. Kennedy made a deal with Fidel Castro to release the prisoner. Castro signed the deal, in exchange for the prisoners Kennedy was to give him $53 million worth of baby food and medicine. due to the failed mission the Kennedy administration created Operation Mongoose
