In this scene, Curley's wife is threatening Crooks, telling him that she can have him hanged. And Crooks backs down. Though Curley's wife may or may not have been physically stronger than Crooks, she definitely had a better societal standing compared to him. As the story takes place in the 1930s where racism is still prevalent. She knew she had a power over Crooks and decided to exercise this power against him knowing her privilege
In this scene, Lennie is reflecting on what has done which is accidentally kill one of the farm puppy's by stroking it too rough. Lennie doesn't understand his strength and doesn't know how to control it which often pops us in the story. This moment foreshadowed Curley's wife death
In this scene, Candy's dog get killed because the barn members no longer see any use for the dog. Candy's dog is then replaced with new healthier puppies. This shows how once you are longer needed and seen as weak, you're discarded. And that you are replaced with someone better and stronger
