- This is sheila Mant and the narrator. He is 14 years old and she is 17 but even though there is a three year age gap he is in love with her. One day he built up the courage to go ask her out on a date to a concert. she dosent say no so he picks her up in his boat on the river because it will be faster and he also dose not have a car yet. sheila offers to take her dads car because she dosent want to be seen in the boat instead of a car but he refuses.

- the narrator and sheila are on the way to the concert but on the way to the concert Sheila is talking about her self the whole time fishing for compliments but while that is going on he has hooked a big bass on his fishing rod. he can tell it is one of the biggest bass he has ever caught but he dosent want to get it out of the water because sheila thinks fishing is dumb. the narrator ends up choosing the girl over the fish so he cuts the line even though he knows that would've been his biggest fish hes ever caught.

- they make it to the concert and enjoy themselves for a little bit and get some cotton candy. once it is time to go home Shelia comes up to the narrator and tell him the she is riding with Eric caswell in his corvette. this makes the narrortar very and Shelia just walks away to go with Eric caswell
