The Monsters Are Due On Maple Street Theme: Fear can turn Human beings into monsters
One major theme of Monsters are due on maple street By Rod Sterling is that Fear Can turn Human beings into Monsters. One example is when the lights went off and everyone had feared what happend with the lights. Evidence that supports this is Mrs Brand: Steve's, the powers off. I had the soup on the stove, and the stove just stopped working pg 72. This supports the theme because when the lights came off everyone was outside scared and confused about why it happend, then it turned crazy because they thought there was a monster messing with them and that there neighbors might be one of them. Another example is when Les Goodman car started up by it self and turned off by it self.evidence that supports this statement is Sally: all by itself. he wasn't anywhere near it. it started all by itself. Pg 76. This statement supports the theme because when Les Goodman tried to turn on his car it did not work but when he was far away from his car it randomly started by it self and shut off. That made everyone fear of him and think he was the monster doing all of this. Lastly another piece of evidence that supports my theme is when Charlie shot Pete Van Horn. Evidence that goes with this statement is Woman one: you killed him, Charlie. you shot him dead! Pg 83. He shot him Because he was a dark figure walking towards them and Charlie was scared that that was the monster so he shot Him out of fear and when they went to him they realized he was Pete Van Horn returning from the other block. After They realized it was Pete Van Horn they all thought Charlie shot him on purpose so now they think he's the monster. To conclude, I think the Theme of The monsters are due on maple street is Fear Can Turn Human Beings Into Monsters.
