From 1756 to 1763, The British joined by the colonies and the French joined by the Indians fought in a war over territory, also known as the seven year war. When the British ended up winning, They signed the Treaty of Paris in 1763 and the British also took over most of the territory. In 1765, The British passed the stamp act on American colonists due to their major debt from the war.

The colonists were tired of having no representation in the British parliament, they were being taxed without having the right to vote or having any say in the way the parliament governs. So they started boycotting, refusing to buy certain goods sold by the British.
The second Continental Congress
On September 5th 1774, A group of high-ranking men met with the colonies to discuss the dilemma. George Washington was set as a commander for the continental army. In April 1775, A war broke out over the problem.
Treaty of Paris
British troops marched to concord to capture colonial leaders, militias weapons and ammunition. Two battles broke out in both Lexington and Concord. The colonial armies met up with the British troops due to Paul Revere, William Dawes, Israel Bissell warning them before hand, "The red coats are coming."
In May 1755, The congress met up in Philadelphia to discuss the next move by the colonist. They decided to declare independence from Britain. There, the Declaration Of Independence was written mostly by Thomas Jefferson and adopted on July 4th 1776.
After the French joined the Americans in 1777 and won the battle of Yorktown in 1781, The Americans finally gained Independence from Britain. In 1783 American, Britain and French diplomats signed the treaty of Paris, ending the war.
