- This displays the loyalty to their faith that is found in Portuguese culture by showing how one should trust that a life of suffering is worth it, as they would be promised eternal bliss
- Our Lady announces to the shepherd children that they will experience a life of suffering. She promises them the help of grace, of which in a mysterious reality, She gives them a foretaste.
- Whereas the other European nations had by this time largely given up their colonies in Africa, Portugal clung onto theirs
- This explains the beliefs withheld deep into Portuguese culture. Lusotropicalism impacts this aspect of a Portuguese identity's nationalistic worldview as it is taught that Portugal was doing “no wrong” and were “good colonizers''.
