- I am suffering from common cold since yesterday and due to which I am feeling weak today.
- Can you explain about it?
- Oh, I see. But do you know that common cold is an acute disease?
- Of course!
- What happened to you Kriti, Are you not well today?
- Diseases are of two types: Acute and Chronic.The diseases that last for very short periods of time are 'acute diseases'. Example of this disease is Common cold from which you are suffering.
- I now understand that whenever I have cold, it only lasts for a week or so.
- And what are chronic diseases?
- Yes
- The diseases that can last for long time, even as much as lifetime are called 'chronic diseases.Examples are diabetes, cancer, heart disease.
- Are such diseases curable?
- Thank you for making me understand the concept of acute and chronic diseases.
- Except some, most of the chronic diseases can be controlled but cannot be cured completely.
