- Hey there Joe! How's Grandma been?
- I have no idea who this lady is and how she knows my name and grandmother
- No thank you! I'd rather not hug you
- Well, I better get going. It was nice catching up with you! (goes in for a hug)
- Joe is walking down the road on his way to town, when a cart drives past him and slows down.#160; He does not know the woman driving the cart.#160;
- Goodbye
- The woman stops and greets Joe. Joe is uncomfortable as he does not not the woman, but he stops walking to be polite.#160;
- If only she saw the poison ivy all over my arms. Maybe it would have been less awkward.
- After talking to the woman for a couple minutes, they go to part ways. The woman goes in for a hug, but Joe stops her. He did not consent to the hug and would've said no if asked.#160;
- Consent is important no matter the situation, Sarah is a hugger, but I have poison ivy. Any other day a hug would be fine, but its important the other person asks before touching me.
- They both leave the situation feeling uncomfortable, a feeling that could've been prevented by asking consent.#160;
- Joe's arms are covered in fresh rashes from a run in with poison ivy. While he might have normally been okay with a hug goodbye, the woman did not ask and he did not want to spread his poison ivy to another person. If she had asked he could've explained his situation.#160;
- Consent is the action of asking permission before doing something.#160; Sarah should've asked permission before touching another person, while some people may not and#160;you can never be certain without asking. There are many forms of consent, it can relate to almost any situation where two people interact with each other. Without consent its impossible for everyone to be comfortable all the time.#160;
