- The first nations women had a very important role in the fur trade and in normal life. They cooked the food, they skinned the fur for the trading, they cleaned, they looked after children, and helped the early fur traders survive by helping them make clothing, food, etc. They were the ones who would make everything.
- we are making the furs for the Europeans to trade
- the First nations people gathered their fur made by the women and traded with the French. In order for the First Nations to get their goods (pots, pans, axes, metal ores, etc.), they had to give the French their beaver furs. The French gave the goods for the beaver furs so they can transport them back to France and make beaver fur clothing (hats, Coats, gloves, etc.). The First Nations taught the French on how to survive the harsh winters, make warm clothing, make food, furniture, and housing. Most of the French worked at the NWC ( Northwest Company) or HBC (Hudson Bay Company.)
