Rainsford is on his yacht traveling to hunt more animals where he hears gunshots in the distance and after going near the edge of the yacht and smoking he falls off trying to grab his cigarette.
Climax
Rainsford swims towards the direction he had heard the gunshots coming from in which he finds himself at an island he had previously heard stories about.
Falling action
Rainsford meets general Zaroff and is invited inside to eat and hunt the most dangerous game in which Rainsford learns is other men. Rainsford wanting to leave this island challenges Zaroff to a hunt in which if he survives he will leave the island and say nothing but if he loses he will die.
Resolusion
Rainsford had been running from the Genral for 2 days using hunting techniques to try and kill the Genral but had only been able to kill one of his best hunting hounds and kill his henchman. But for these days the genral had always known where Rainsford was and had even taunted him by blowing a cigarette below the tree he was hiding in.
Rainsford was able to escape after the genral had went back to his mansion and when the genral was getting ready for bed Rainsford had shown himself while hiding in the curtain near his window. So the genral had the idea for them to fight to the death and whoever won gets to sleep in the bed but whoever lost was fed to the hounds.
Rainsford fast asleep in the bed only thinking that this was the most comfortable bed he had ever slept in.
