  • one day stanley was walking like any other day then a pair of red cleats fell on his head.

  • Stanley was blamed for stealing a famous baseball players cleats from a homeless shelter. He was sentenced for 16 months in Camp Green Lake.

  • Stanley's mother wrote him a letter. Zero, he believed, was attempting to read his letter. Zero then admitted to Stanley that he was illiterate and had no idea what the letter said. They therefore struck a bargain. Every day, Zero would help Stanley dig a part of his hole, after which Stanley would instruct him in reading and writing. The two guys became close friendships as a result of this long period of time.
  • Resolution
  • Stanley stole the water truck after Zero fled. He crashed the water truck into a hole before fleeing to find Zero. Stanley and Zero climbed a mountain called "God's Thumb." Zero had to be carried up the mountain by Stanley. They had been living off onions for days and were still alive! "Stanley carrying Zero up the mountain demonstrates the value of friends and family."
  • Stanley decided to dig one more hole. After leaving the mountain, they returned to Camp Green Lake. They discovered a treasure box in the last hole they dug. The warden said it was her prize, although Stanley's name was written on it. "Friends and family can accomplish anything when they work together."
  • The great great great grandson of Madame Zeroni was carried up the mountain by Elya Yelnats' great great grandson. That was the tale of how Hector Zeroni and Stanley Yelnats became the closest of friends.
