- At six, my sister and I were sent back to my mum in France. But at the age of seven, we were taken to an orphanage in Paris. My unsettled childhood and lack of a permanent home had made me anxious to belong and achieve the acceptance of my peers.
- When Henri was eight, Henri travelled with his mum and sister to Australia. Followed soon after by his french stepfather. Both of his parents worked very hard to support their family. His mother's skills as a tailor helped her to find work. His stepfather travelled from St Mary's to North Sydney every day to work as a presser. They later bought a grocery store in Surry Hills, making just enough money to sustain the family. Finally, Henri's family had a permanent home and they began to settle into life in Australia.
- One of many challenges was fitting in on the school playground. My foreign ways became a source of much amusement amongst his peers.
- School plays became one of my favourite pursuits. my talent won me respect and I decided to become an actor.
- In 1962, I began studying drama at the Ensemble theatre. There I took part in my first stage performance, The Physicists. Five years later, I made my television debut in Homicide. In 1983, I landed on the role of Robert Beare in the ABC television series Mother and Son. The series stayed on air for a decade and became an Australian comedy classic. I have worked prolifically, in theatre, starred in a number of hugely successful one - man shows, and I have appeared in guest roles on several television series including Stingers and All Saints.

- I continue to work in theatre and television. I am now devoting more of my time to writing. I have won many awards throughout my career, including an order of Australia medal for service to the arts and to the community.
