- Beatrice-The niece of Leanato and the cousin of Hero. Is very quick-witted and is very generous and good-hearted but also mocks others.
- Benedick- A solider who fights under Don Pedro and close friends with Don Pedro and Claudio. He is very witty and likes to mock others and jokes around with people.
- Claudio-A young solider who fights under Don Pedro during recent wars. He is in love with Hero, and is very loving but is also gullible.
- Don Pedro-A nobleman from Aragon , and referred to as the Prince. He is friends with Leonato and is very close to the soldiers fighting under him.He is generous , courteous, smart, and loving.
- Hero-The young daughter of Leonato and cousin of Beatrice. She is lovely, gentle, and very innocent.
- Leonato-The father of Hero and the uncle of Beatrice. He is the governor of Messina and a respected nobleman.
- Borachio-Associate of Don John, and the lover of Margaret. He and don John help trick Claudio and Don Pedro into thinking Hero is unfaithful to Claudio.
- Hero's serving woman, who helps Margaret-Borachio and Don John deceive Claudio into thinking Hero is unfaithful. She likes to make jokes and loves to tease.
- Don John-Don Pedro's half brother, and referred to as the bastered. He tries to ruin the happiness of Hero and Claudio. He is the villain of the play.
- Conrad-Don John's intimate associates devoted to Don John.
- Dogberry-The chief policemen of Messina and in charge of watch. He takes his job very serious . He is a middle class character.
- Verges-The deputy to Dogberry and chief policemen to Messina.
- Antonio-Leonato's elderly brother and Hero and Beatrices uncle.
- Ursula-One of hero's awaiting women.
- Balthasar- A musician and flirts with Margaret at the masked party and falling in love with Beatrice.
