  • Meeting of the Estates General
  • The French revolution started in 1789 and ended 1799. This was a time when the commoners of France rose up against the monarchy.
  • The Tennis Court Oath
  • The commoners felt as they didn't have much freedom. They had high taxes while the 1st and 2nd estate did not. King Louis XVI was a weak leader and did not cut off expenses.
  • The Storming of the Bastille
  • This was a meeting of the three estates including clergy, nobles, and commoners. This meeting was to find solutions to their financial problems. It ended with the commoners forming into the national assembly.
  • The Great Fear
  • The commoners broke down a door to an indoor tennis court, pledging to stay until they had drawn up a constitution 
  • we demand a constitution!
  • King Louis was going to use military to dismiss the national assembly which made the 3rd estate very upset. They decided to storm the bastille which was a Paris prison and had fire arm inside. 
  • The great fear was a wave of senseless panic through out France where peasants became outlaws themselves. They broke into nobles homes and they tore up documents that forced them to pay fees.
