- Chapter 3 When Marji stays in the bath a long time to try and understand what her grandfather went through after learning about his political imprisonment .
- This scene compares to my life because when I was 10 years old my father used to tell us everything he had to live through in 1982 because there was a war going on in Guatemala.
- Chapter 19 When Marji's parents sent her to Vienna, Austria, so that she could be safe
- This scene compares to my life because when I was 4 years old I had to move to another city to be safe, as my life and my family's life was in danger. My life would be very different if we had not moved from my hometown, I would not speak Spanish as I do today because in my hometown they only speak Quiche.
- Chapter 36 When Marjane and Reza get married and their relationship quickly deteriorates . Within a month , they sleep in separate beds and they have daily arguments .
- This scene compares to the time when one of my mom's nieces got married, but the wedding was too fast, she didn't know the guy well and a few months later they got divorced, that's why my parents always advise us to know the person well before making a decision.
