Storyboard Text

  • The rule of Justinian began in 527. He was Energetic and hard working while also being one of the best rulers the empire of Byzantine will ever see. He had been born into a poor family so he always tried to take everyone's suggestions and opinions weather they were poor or wealthy.
  • The longest lasting contribution of Emperor Justinian was his set of laws. When he initially became emperor the empire had very disorganized set of laws. Some even contradicted others and most of the laws were hard to make sense of. So he decided to send a team to research years and years of Roman laws to eventually create what we they called Justinian's code.
  • Preserving the principles of Roman Law was only one of the things that Byzantines scholars did they also copied the work of ancient greeks. The byzantine civilization blended together multiply cultures including Greek, Roman, and Christian influences.
  • When the Empire started it's decline scholars started to take the ancient manuscripts and their knowledge of the rich Byzantine culture to the new and powerful city states of Italy.
