Shame on you Madison! You should have delivered the commissions, although it is unconstitutional and above the power of the court to issue writs of mandamus. Case dismissed.
The new chief justice John Marshall was conflicted on what to do. He decided that even though he knew Madison was wrong for not delivering the commissions it would be unconstitutional for the court to demand he delivers them.
